RadServ PT

RadServ PT design is Windows-based alternative to Eberline portable terminals. Based on concepts similar to those used in the InStep RadServ System, RadServ PT provides consistent and reliable communication in an easy to use and understand format. RadServ PT uses a common "point and click" concept for commands and operations and eliminates time spent establishing initial communication or recovering from dropped communication with a field unit. The communication interface provided with RadServ PT is standard available equipment and is fully documented thus eliminating proprietary hardware and hardware interfaces devices.

RadServ PT to field unit communication is reliable and easy to establish. The communication protocols are the same as those in use on full scope RadServ Systems. RadServ PT's Graphic User Interface (GUI) includes clear and concise labeling of commands and functions that are activated by simple point and click action. The RadServ PT GUI promotes accuracy and efficiency resulting in decreased errors and less time spent in servicing field units.

InStep Software provides a full line of RadServ products designed to assist you with managing, operating, and maintaining your RMS system. Other products include:

  • RadServ System
  • RadServ Field Unit Simulator
  • ERDS and Emergency Response Batch Feed
  • RadServ Training System

RadServ PT Functional Overview

RadServ PT provides all commands and controls needed to operate and perform field unit monitoring and maintenance functions. The built in help file provides clear and concise directions should there ever be a question on any included function.

Standard RadServ PT includes:

  • Field unit composite status
  • Field unit pump control (on/off)
  • Flush commands (on/off)
  • Standby commands (on/off)
  • Check source commands
  • Channel initialization
  • Channel deletion
  • Channel parameter monitoring and modification
  • Alarm acknowledgement
  • Alarm clearing
  • Historical average queries
  • Print output to file

RadServ PT operations are started from the RadServ PT main display. An example main display is shown above.

RadServ PT Communication to Field Unit

Communication between RadServ PT and a field unit is extremely easy to establish. Just connect the provided communications cable to a running RadServ PT, provide field unit address, and communication is established. RadServ PT automatically polls the field unit for connection as long as the field unit is available. As soon as the connection is established, typically in a matter of a few seconds, RadServ PT obtains all current field unit information and reports it to the composite display field.A RadServ PT connected to a field unit is shown in the example here:

  • Easy to Use
  • No Data Entry Required
  • Simply Point & C
  • With communication quickly established, highlighting the desired channel shown on the composite field then selecting a function provides access to the functions. Entry of new addresses and channel numbers with a keyboard is not required. Moving from channel to channel and function to function is always a mouse click away.

RadServ PT Current Values and Controls

RadServ PT provides a full range of controls and commands for each field unit and field unit channel. With RadServ PT, the need to enter parameters one at a time is eliminated by including an Initialize Channel command. One mouse click on this command button initializes the selected channel back to the last set of parameters acquired from the channel.Other commands are executed using the same point and click command scheme.

An example of a RadServ PT Current Values and Control screen is shown above.

All fields in the Current Data section of the Current Values and Controls display are dynamic and update each time RadServ PT polls the field unit. RadServ PT reliable communication ensures that values being monitored and operations being performed from this display are not dropped.

RadServ PT Parameter Monitoring and Control

Parameter set point monitoring, editing, and updating is made simple and concise with RadServ PT. Drop down list boxes provide selectable lists of channel units and types. Other entries are made using standard Windows operating techniques. All parameters can be modified or edited at one time from the same screen. Selecting the OK/APPLY command button sends displayed parameters to the field unit then re-displays parameters to allow validation of parameter loading.

An example of a RadServ PT Current Values and Control screen is shown above.Selecting the "Print Parameters to a File" command button sends current displayed parameters to a file for later documentation if desired.

RadServ PT Field Unit History Monitoring

RadServ PT acquires field unit historical values by selecting the type of history to be monitored

(1 min, 10 min, 1 hr, or 24 hr). Historical values are displayed showing the units value, CPM value, and status of the channel for each historical period. An example RadServ PT 10 Minute History Display is shown below.

RadServ PT Field Unit History Monitoring

All values shown on a historical display can be sent to file for later documentation and use as desired. Historical values are quickly graphed by selection of the Graph History command button. A sample RadServ PT historical graph is shown below:

PT Installation and Configuration

RadServ PT is designed to run on any IBM compatible host computer (typically a laptop) that uses Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP as the computer operating system. RadServ PT comes with an installation CD, communication cable, and connectors. The installation CD includes the RadServ Portable Terminal, documentation, help files, and installation instructions. RadServ PT installation is performed on your computer platform using a common installation wizard interface that guides you through the installation.

The provided communication cable and connectors are fully documented and available as standard off-the-shelf equipment. The detailed documentation will guide you through the steps needed to make additional interface cables should this ever be desired.

Obtaining RadServ PT
